Description
Target Audience
- For sailing enthusiasts who have their Day Skipper’s ticket and wish to prepare for their next sailing qualification, which will allow you to do overnight coastal passages up to 40nm offshore.
Duration
- 6 days
- + 2-3 days for written and practical exams
Requirements
- Minimum 800 nm sailing experience
- 3 port entries
- 24 night hours on watch
- Minimum of three 60 nm passages
- First Aid Certificate – a current and valid Level 1 First Aid Certificate or a current and valid higher level first aid qualification or medical qualification acceptable to SA Sailing.
Course Details
- Curriculum designed to provide necessary experience for Coastal Skipper level
- Covers theory, boat handling, and optional mileage building
- Preparation for SA Sailing Exam – Theory and Practical
Certificate
- International Certificate of Competence (ICC) – allowing you to charter overseas (*ICC – for SA citizens/residents only)
- SA Sailing Coastal Skipper’s Ticket for vessels over 9 metres – for sail and power, allowing you to operate a recreational vessel up to 100 tonnes or 25 metres in length, within 40 nautical miles offshore.
Note:
- Other costs outside Offshore Sailing Academy: Approximately R 3 200.00 SA Sailing exam fees. Approximately R 3 200.00 for the SRC radio course depending on where you do this. First Aid Level one certification.
- In order to qualify for our Coastal Skipper course you will need to pass the Ishihara colour vision examination and have a first aid level 1 certificate.
